HMS Bergbau AG: Export business through exclusive marketing agreement with Vunene Mining

– Coal from Vunene Mining marketed to Asian customers

Berlin, 10 December 2013: HMS Bergbau AG, an international coal supplier with operating know-how of coal mining, transport and trade, announces its first international coal marketing operations through the exclusive marketing agreement with Vunene Mining (Pty), subsidiary of IchorCoal. In a break from conventional transactions by ‘junior mining’ companies in South Africa, which are largely completed through larger international trading houses, IchorCoal Group and HMS Bergbau have succeeded in conducting the first direct business between the Vunene mine in South Africa and customers in Asia. The first delivery is due in December and shipping will be handled through the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) – the world’s largest coal export terminal.

‘The acquisition and conclusion of this transaction by HMS Bergbau AG for Vunene Mining and the IchorCoal Group underlines the strength of HMS Bergbau’s position in the international coal market,’ said Heinz Schernikau, CEO of HMS Bergbau AG. ‘As a result of this transaction, Vunene Mining is now one of the very few South African ‘junior mining’ companies that is able to deliver coal directly to customers in Asia via its Quattro allocation at RBCT. We will continue with similar orders in the future, too.’
