HMS Bergbau AG: Founding family of CEO Heinz Schernikau acquires majority share in HMS Bergbau AG

– Shares acquired from IchorCoal N.V.

– Schernikau family now holds over 90% of total shares

Berlin, 19 December 2013: HMS Bergbau AG, an international coal supplier with operating know-how of coal mining, transport and trade, today announced that the family of Management Board Spokesman Heinz Schernikau has acquired all shares in HMS Bergbau AG previously held by IchorCoal N.V. As a result of the transaction, the Schernikau family has increased its holding in HMS Bergbau AG to over 90% while at the same time reducing its investment in IchorCoal N.V. Both parties have agreed not to disclose any further details about the transaction.

Despite the dissolving of the cross-ownership of the two companies IchorCoal N.V. and HMS Bergbau AG under German company law, both organizations will continue to cooperate very closely. This includes but is not limited to the sale and professional marketing of South African steam coal from the Vunene Mine.

‘We are pleased that we have completed the legal unbundling of the two companies on a mutual and amicable basis, enabling us to continue our partnership moving forward,’ said Heinz Schernikau. ‘Now we will turn our attention to focussing on our core competencies and realising the resulting advantages.’
