——————————————————————————–
Mühlbauer has started the business year 2001 with top marks for sales, order
income and order backlog. The preliminary figures for the first quarter, despite
a high level in the previous year, indicate a continuation of the organic
growth course.
At 29.4 million EUR, targeted sales from January to March 2001 are one third
more than the comparable value of the previous year (22.1 million EUR).
Similarly, with regard to order income, at 34.1 million EUR, a further increase
by ten percent compared to the high level of the previous year (31 million EUR)
can be reported. According to preliminary figures, order backlog at the end of
the quarter will amount to 60.9 million EUR; this is over 62 percent more than
in the first three months of business year 2000 (37.5 million EUR). Thus, orders
already suffice to stretch far into the current year.
The largest portion of organic growth in the Mühlbauer Group can be observed in
the business area of Smart Identification, with turnkey solutions for all
imaginable SmartCard and SmartLabel applications. Sales tripled in the period
from January to March 2001 from 5.4 million EUR to 16 million EUR. Regarding
order income, amounting to 16.8 million EUR, a clear gain of 154 percent was
posted compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year (6.6 million
EUR). The order backlog, which had already risen in the first quarter of 2000
(rise at the time: 34.6 percent), can be increased considerably once again: The
growth on a volume of 21.2 million EUR means a good 135 percent more than in the
first quarter of business year 2000 (9 million EUR).

New buildings occupied as planned
After a construction time of only nine months, the new buildings at the firms
headquarters in Roding, with a total area of 18,500 square meters, have been
occupied. This has led to a tripling of the production, assembly and development
capacity at that location. The new buildings contain a fully automatic climate-
controlled clean room, which primarily facilitates working with dust-sensitive
silicium. The grand opening of the new buildings will take place within the
context of the 20-year company anniversary celebrations on 8 June 2001. On 9
June 2001, there will be an open house for anyone interested.
Mühlbauer AG expands board of directors
As of March 2001, Gerhard Gregori (37) has been added to the board of directors
of Mühlbauer AG. As a member of the board, he is responsible for the production
area. Gregori had previously served as a production manager for assembly. The
previous COO, Ulrich Schwab (36), as chairman, will take over the responsibility
for Sales and Marketing as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). The growth of the
Mühlbauer executive level enables the Mühlbauer Group to consistently implement
its strategy of securing and further expanding core competency and worldwide
market leadership in the SmartCard and SmartLabel business, and to tap new
growth markets of the future through new technologies.
The Mühlbauer Group develops, manufactures and distributes turnkey solutions for
the production of SmartCards, SmartLabels and LEDs. With tailor-made complete
solutions for all imaginable SmartCard products, the company has achieved the
