License to economise Offenburg, June 21, 2001. The Softline Group, one of the leading european software marketers, today announced the availability of a new software license model for medium and large businesses across Europe. The new “XXL-License” can be purchased for a large number of workstations at a fixed cost, depending upon the number of required users. For example, a company requiring 350 licenses can purchase an XXL-License for 250-500 users. The company may then make as many installations of the software as necessary, up to the maximum of 500. Using this model, the company reduces the necessity of permanent tracking requirements to stay fully licensed which, in turn, reduces overall administration costs. After purchasing the XXL-License, the required software is loaded on to the customers file server. Installations are undertaken by simply downloading to each individual computer. This procedure accelerates and simplifies both software installation and license management. The software can be installed without controlling, registering and archiving individual license data, thereby relieving much of the IT administration. This easy license model was developed by the Softline Group to put the simplicity and trust back into corporate software licensing. “Our XXL-License concept clearly differs from the distrusting license model at Microsoft”, said Peer Blumenschein, Softlines CEO. Microsoft forces its customers to activate each license for each PC individually, whereas Softlines customers can install and deinstall software independently. This “freedom profit for businesses”, according to Blumenschein, is now available for four popular Softline products such as the new data compression tool “StuffIt” for Windows and the file viewer “Quickview plus”, that enables the user to view and use more than 225 different file formats. The XXL-License also includes technical support through the Softline Group as well as a free, twelve-month Update-Service for the purchased software. Businesses with up to 1,000 users can choose from one of four price steps and individual framework agreements are offered to key accounts. The XXL-License is available now.
