Beiersdorf plans realignment of its consumer supply chain
In the context of changing market conditions and as part of its recently
published Consumer Business Strategy, Beiersdorf AG plans a realignment of its
consumer supply chain operation. Beiersdorf AG’s Supervisory Board approved
the framework for this realignment in its meeting today.
A special focus will be to develop an optimised and therefore more efficient
production and logistics network. In this context the Company assumes that a
reduction of European production and warehouse locations and related job
reductions will be necessary. Specific initiatives have not yet been decided;
Beiersdorf AG is currently conducting further analyses. Decisions about
specific initiatives are not expected before next year, 2006.
At the current stage, the Company estimates that it can achieve cost savings
of around EUR 100 million per year and expects total extraordinary one-off
costs of about EUR 220 million over the years 2006 to 2008. The realignment of
the supply chain will further strengthen Beiersdorf AG’s competitive position
and drive growth through investments in its brands.
