Tariff Structur approved up to 2006
Flughafen Wien AG has taken a decisive step to support the development of Vienna
Airport as a hub, and has reduced its landing tariffs. Effective from 1
November 2001, the rates for all types of aircraft will decrease by 3%. Tariffs
for long-haul flights of over 125 tonnes (e.g. A 340, Boeing 747) will be
reduced by 20% to “give airlines an added incentive to include Vienna in their
long-haul schedules, and thereby expand our offering”, explained Herbert
Kaufmann, Speaker of the Management Board.
At the same time Vienna International Airport will introduce a new regional
tariff, which includes cost savings of 27% for all carriers serving destinations
within a radius of 600 km of the airport. This change in fee structure is
designed to make the “feeder service to our hub” (Kaufmann) even more
attractive. With this new 600 km radius, Flughafen Wien AG will assume an active
role in the development of air traffic prior to the planned eastern expansion
of the EU.
This action represents annual savings of approximately EUR 6 million for
airlines using Vienna. It is expected to provide Vienna International Airport
with a significant advantage over its international competitors.
The tariff reduction by Flughafen Wien AG after “zero tariff years” in 2000 and
2001 is based on a strategic decision to generate momentum in the airline
industry and improve the competitive position of Vienna International Airport
over the medium-term. “We not only expect an increase in the number of
passengers, but also valuable impetus for the entire eastern region”, commented
Kaufmann.
This fee reduction is a part of a new tariff system, which was approved by the
Austrian Ministry for Transportation, Innovation and Technology for the period
up to 2006.
The new tariff regulations set price adjustments as follows up to 2006: (-0.35 x
average growth in traffic) + inflation rate. This will therefore secure the
development of tariffs for Flughafen Wien AG over the long-run.
