Flughafen Wien AG prepares entry into Malta Ad-hoc-announcement transmitted by DGAP. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Flughafen Wien AG prepares entry into Malta Flughafen Wien AG and two partners announced today that the Maltese government has selected their consortium, Malta Mediterranean Link, to assume 40% ownership of Malta International Airport p.l.c. This company will be the concessionaire of Malta International Airport under a 65-year concession agreement. The Maltese government retains the remaining 60%. The transaction is expected to take effect at the end of May 2002, pending approval from the Maltese Parliament. Malta Mediterranean Link is composed of the Vienna International Airport, the majority stakeholder with a 53.24% interest; SNC-Lavalin Inc., with 36.13%; and Bianchi & Company (1916) Ltd., a Maltese firm, with the remaining 10.63%. Flughafen Wien AG will contribute approximately 26 million Euro to the consortium’s total investment. As part of the transaction, Vienna International Airport Group will be granted a technical services agreement to assist the airport concessionaire in strategic development, the development of its retail business, airport and aviation marketing as well as human resources. Malta International Airport currently handles three million passengers per year and generates a turnover of EUR 40 million with approx. 450 employees. The country’s rich history and culture coupled with a pleasant climate forms the basis for Malta’s growing tourism industry. This is expected to be further boosted by growth in “cruise and fly” holidays. Malta’s track record as a trans shipment hub will serve the airport well as it develops its cargo handling activity. Flughafen Wien AG will play a central role in the development of Malta International Airport as the Mediterranean passenger and cargo hub. Malta is presently negotiating for accession to the EU.
