Through its 57.1% stake in the Malta Mediterranean Consortium, Flughafen Wien AG holds an investment of 40.0% in Malta Airport. This latest transaction has now increased the shareholding to a majority of more than 50%, which will allow for joint control of Malta Airport by the consortium and the Flughafen Wien subsidiary. “Our previous activities in Malta Airport have been extremely successful. Since our entry in 2002, the share price has doubled and earnings have shown sound growth. This acquisition underscores our long-term commitment to Malta Airport and will facilitate the implementation of our strategic goals for the further development of the airport“, commented Herbert Kaufmann, member and speaker of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien Group, on the conclusion of this transaction. The primary goal of Flughafen Wien AG is to further expand the scope of business at this location together with the consortium partners and to also successfully realise the previously introduced “Cruise & Fly” concept. In addition, the expansion of the airport’s flight offering should improve the attractiveness of this Mediterranean island both as a tourism destination and a hub for air and sea cargo.
