Flughafen Wien AG: 8.7% increase in passengers during 2010
– Passenger traffic in 2010: + 8.7% – Passenger traffic to the Middle East: + 10.5% – Passenger traffic to Eastern Europe: + 13.8% – Forecast for passenger traffic in 2011: + 5.0% Traffic statistics for 2010 show a total of 19,691,206 passengers handled by Vienna International Airport. This figure not only represents an increase of 8.7% over the previous year, but is also more than double the European average. ‘Vienna International Airport recorded strong traffic growth during the past year and nearly matched the level before the economic crisis. 2011 will be an important year for us: We want to improve our service relationships with our customers and partners and also continue the development of the non-aviation business. In addition, we intend to focus our efforts on completing the terminal extension Skylink. Our goal is to become the best airport in the region and to significantly expand our role as a competitive gateway to Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia,’ commented Christoph Herbst, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG. Passenger traffic to the Middle East and Eastern Europe rose by 10.5% and 13.8%, respectively. Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increased 9.9%, flight movements by 1.1%, and cargo (incl. trucking) by 16.5%. In spite of the substantial growth in passenger volume during 2010, Vienna remains one of the most punctual airports in Europe, ranking ahead of the Lufthansa hubs in Munich, Zurich and Frankfurt in international comparison.
