HDW, Germany’s largest shipyard concludes multimillion contract with CENIT and
IBM
Hamburg, July 25, 2001 Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW), Kiel, Germany, is
the first European shipyard to convert its complete development, construction
and product data management activities to integrated data technology. Thus,
Germany’s largest shipyard – and the international market-leader in the field of
conventionally powered submarines – has signed an eight-figure contract (EUR)
with CENIT AG Systemhaus and IBM Germany GmbH. The creation of particular
shipyard-modules is one of the goals. For CENIT, this collaboration with HDW
will open a new industrial sector. CENIT will use existing knowledge as well as
knowledge gained throughout the project to fully penetrate this sector. In this
project, CENIT will be responsible for consulting and therefore also for the
training, methodology and the support of the design engineers, as well as for
the linkage of yet existing software-interfaces at HDW for example the link
between SAP and the production and construction.
CENIT will cover the entire process-chain with their know-how in consulting.
IBM will deliver hard- and software, and will also accept, together with CENIT,
extensive conceptual tasks and act as consultants throughout the initial phase.
Further details will be presented at today’s press-conference in Hamburg at 11
am.
