The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Vienna, August 29, 2001 – Telekom Austria (VSE: TKA; NYSE: TKA) announced today its financial results for the first half 2001. Total managed revenues of Telekom Austria group (including Mobilkom Austria) registered an increase by 0.6% to EUR 1,935.3m (1 HY 2000: EUR 1,923.0m). Total managed group EBITDA rose by 10.1% to EUR 704.6m (1 HY 2000: EUR 640.0m). With a view to transparent presentation of the Group’s operating results, EBITDA will be reported exclusive of idle work force expenses (expenses for employees who have been released or transferred from the work force and all cash settlements for civil servants who have agreed to leave with severance packages), beginning with the first quarter 2001. Idle work force expenses amounted to EUR 18.3 m in the first half 2001 and did not occur in the first half 2000. In the fixed line segment revenues fell due to intensive competition by 7.3% to EUR 1,244.4 m (1HY 2000: EUR 1,350.9m). As a result of successful cost cutting measures EBITDA increased by 3.6 % to EUR 417.9m (1HY 2000: EUR 403.5m). In mobile communications, which essentially include the activities of Mobilkom Austria in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, revenues rose by 15.8% to EUR 822.5m (1HY 2000: EUR 710.4m) and EBITDA by 43.7% to EUR 289.6m (1HY 2000: EUR 201.5m). In data communications revenues increased to EUR 151.5m (1HY 2000: EUR 150.9m). EBITDA fell due to higher intercompany prices for fixed line services and lower revenues in the second quarter 2001 to EUR 11.2m (1HY 2000: EUR 27.7m). Revenues in the Internet segment reached EUR 39.2m (1HY 2000: EUR 27.8m) and EBITDA amounted to EUR -14.1m (1HY 2000: EUR 7.4m). The consolidated figures of Telekom Austria AG, which include Mobilkom Austria at equity show revenues of 1,329.6m in the first half of the business year 2001 (1HY 2000: EUR 1,420.9 m).
