CropEnergies Welcomes Commitment to E10

CropEnergies AG / Key word(s): Statement

08.03.2011 / 19:22

Mannheim, 8 March 2011 - The CropEnergies AG, Mannheim, welcomes the
E10-summit's decision made in the Federal Ministry of Economics and
Technology on 8 March to proceed with the introduction of E10 in Germany
with the support of all participants. Rainer Brüderle, Federal Minister of
Economics and Technology, invited organisations representing the
automotive, fuel and agricultural sector as well as the consumer side to
discuss further steps to facilitate E10.

Lutz Guderjahn, Member of the Executive Board of CropEnergies AG: 'The
commitment from all the participants involved to launch E10 in Germany and
suggestions to inform consumer better is an important step. It shows that
the German politics and the German industry are clearly committed to and
further pursue their own and the EU climate protection goals.' The
introduction of E10 at German petrol stations since 1 January 2011 has been
accompanied by numerous misleading and to some extent contradictory
information. This has caused uncertainty among consumers. 'European
bioethanol in E10 has been proved to be sustainably produced.' It is an
essential contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the
dependence on oil imports.

Bioethanol is a sustainable biofuel made from renewable raw materials and
substitutes fossil fuels. Through its sustainability criteria, the EU
ensures that in the future only sustainably produced biofuels can be sold.
Since 1 January 2011, all biofuels used in Germany must prove that they
save at least 35 percent of the green house gases compared to fossil fuels
across the whole value chain. The bioethanol plants of CropEnergies save
significantly more greenhouse gases. Thus, bioethanol makes an essential
contribution to decreasing the emissions in the transport sector and is
furthermore an inexpensive alternative to other renewable energies.

CropEnergies AG

CropEnergies - a member of the Südzucker Group - is a leading European
supplier of sustainably produced bioethanol for the fuel sector. 'Crop'
stands for 'creative regeneration of power'. Energy in the form of
bioethanol is produced from renewable resources - grain and sugar beets.
The components of the raw materials not used to produce bioethanol, such as
proteins, are processed into high-quality food and animal feed products.

CropEnergies sees itself as a pioneer in the German bioethanol market and
is expanding its market position throughout Europe. With subsidiaries in
Germany, Belgium, and France, CropEnergies is one of the leading bioethanol
producers in the European growth market for renewable energies. The shares
of CropEnergies AG (ISIN DE000A0LAUP1) are listed in the Official Market
(Prime Standard) on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
