Issued by: CTS EVENTIM AG
CTS EVENTIM to take over 51 percent of Marek Lieberberg
Konzertagentur
Munich, June 7, 2000. CTS EVENTIM AG, the leading marketer of
tickets for concerts, theater and sports events and a Neuer Markt
constituent since February 1, 2000, is set to acquire 51 percent
of the shares of Frankfurt-based Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur
GmbH effective July 1, 2000.
Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur GmbH is one of Germany’s leading
concert promoters, and organized more than 450 large-scale events
attracting over 2 million concert-goers in 1999. For the last 15
years Marek Lieberberg has organized Germany’s two biggest open-
air festivals “Rock am Ring” and “Rock im Park”, which attract
total attendances of around 140,000. Over several decades,
Lieberberg has been the personal intimate and trusted business
associate of elite performers such as Sting, Bryan Adams, Celine
Dion, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi. His company’s 1999 turnover
was around DM 120 million. The takeover will make it necessary to
revise CTS EVENTIM AG’s sales and earnings forecasts for 2000 and
beyond sharply upwards.
The acquisition is the logical next step in CTS EVENTIM’s
strategy to build the CTS internet platform into Europe’s number
one leisure and events portal. As management board chairman Klaus-
Peter Schulenberg sees it, the fact that CTS now has direct
access to the top international artistic talent opens up a
brilliant future for the group. As well as giving CTS EVENTIM
exclusive rights to market the tickets to star attractions such
as “Rock am Ring”, the deal will also give a significant boost to
the group’s merchandising and eCommerce activities. Customers
will in future be able to buy not just their tickets but also T-
shirts, posters and CDs through the CTS portal. And, says
Schulenberg, CTS is now in a position to offer artistes tailor-
made total solutions – everything they need from tour planning
through ticketing to internet advertising and merchandising, all
from a single source. “This strategy will give CTS an important
competitive advantage and significantly extend our value-creation
chain. At the same time the takeover of Marek Lieberberg
Konzertagentur GmbH represents the first big step along the road
to realizing our European strategy. In future we plan for CTS to
handle the ticketing for international tours in the rest of
Europe as well as Germany.”
