Press release
Nedap and Leclanché address energy storage market with PowerRouter and high
efficient Lithium Ion Technology
Yverdon-les-Bains and Groenlo, June 13, 2012 - Nedap and Leclanché (SIX
Swiss Exchange : LECN) announce their cooperation for addressing the market
of energy storage systems in which the PowerRouter will be compatible with
Leclanché lithium-ion (lithium-titanate based) battery technology. With the
use of Leclanché's Li-ion batteries, offering high efficiency, high safety
and long life expectancy, in combination with the PowerRouter, it will be
possible to further maximize the use of self-generated solar energy. The
companies will show their solution at their booths on the Intersolar 2012
in starting 13th of June.
'The energy transition can only succeed with flexible solutions for storing
energy. This cooperation between Leclanché and Nedap will combine the
benefits of the Lithium-titanate batteries and the PowerRouter to give
users a great solution for their home energy storage system', highlighted
Joep Thomassen, Managing Director of Nedap Energy Systems.
'Smart energy storage management has never been easier for a household.
Nedap's PowerRouter and Leclanché's storage technology offer an all-in-one
solution to boost the self-consumption rate of an average solar household
by up to 70 %. With Leclanché's Lithium-ion cells allowing 15.000 full
charge and discharge cycles and its built in patented ceramic separator,
the lifetime of the battery system coincides with the lifetime of the solar
panels on the rooftop. Therefore, the combination of nedap's PowerRouter
together with Leclanché's technology offers an efficient and long lasting
storage solution for residential households', said Dr. Ulrich Ehmes, CEO of
Leclanché SA.

About Leclanché
Leclanché specializes in the production of tailor-made energy storage
solutions. Leclanché's strategy is to expand its position as one of the
leading lithium-ion cell producers and solution providers for renewable
energy storage systems in Europe. Its initial strategic priority is
stationary home electric energy storage applications and expansion into the
stationary industrial and grid electricity storage markets. Through
participation in research consortia focusing on off-road and automotive
applications, Leclanché is positioned to take advantage of new market
opportunities.
Through a licensed ceramic separator technology and focus on
lithium-titanate technology, Leclanché manufactures large-format
lithium-ion cells optimized for safety and cycle-life in a fully automated
production process. Leclanché currently operates a fully automated pilot
production line with an installed annual production capacity of up to 4 MWh
in large-format lithium-ion cells. By the end of the second quarter of
2012, Leclanché expects to commence commercial production at its first mass
production line with an installed annual capacity of up to 76 MWh in
lithium-titanate cells.
Leclanché was founded in 1909 in Yverdon-les-Bains. Through the integration
of a spin-off from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in 2006, the company evolved
from a traditional battery manufacturer to become a leading developer and
manufacturer of lithium-ion cells in Europe. Leclanché currently employs
120 staff and is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (LECN). The company has
its headquarters in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland) and production
facilities in Willstätt (Germany).
