Trade Sale of Swiss Medical Solution AG
Swiss Medical Solution AG has been sold to the Swedish company
Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget. New Value AG realizes an exit.
Baar, September 05, 2012 - Swiss Medical Solution AG (SMS) has been sold
entirely to the Swedish company Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA). SCA
is a global hygiene and forest company that develops and produces personal
care products, tissue and forest products. Sales are conducted in some 100
countries. SCA has many well-known brands, including the global brands TENA
and Tork. The sale to SCA gives SMS the possibility to be integrated into a
global company.
SCA will concentrate on the diagnostic products integrated in diapers for
the application area of early detection of urinary tract infections.
Commercialisation of the in-vitro diagnostic product U-Lab(R), that can be
used directly by patients as a self-test, has been licensed to a new
company owned by the former shareholders of SMS. New Value AG holds a
pro-rata interest in the new company.
The sale of SMS is concluded at the valuation reflected in the net asset
value and this transaction has therefore no impact on the NAV. With the
proceeds from the exit, New Value AG can redeem its entire bank debt and
thus the liquidity situation of the company is stabilized. An important
step of the financial restructuring has been conducted. Future activities
of New Value will focus on the development and value maximization of the
portfolio companies.
