Apprenticeship 2026

Shaping the future and unleashing potential

This summer, 186 young people are starting their apprenticeships at Swisscom ― the beginning of a new chapter. At the same time, 196 apprentices and students are celebrating the successful completion of their training. Together, these two milestones mark the beginning and end of a formative journey full of experience, development and personal growth.

Group of young people celebrating together

The start of an apprenticeships gives new trainees and students the opportunity to deepen their interests, discover new skills and gain their first practical experience in the working world. Swisscom supports talented young people on the path to the networked future and creates an environment in which they can develop and take on responsibility. Under the motto 'Discover your possibilities', Swisscom trains around 700 apprentices across Switzerland. That includes 24 students who are completing a practical bachelor’s degree in information technology.

This year, 186 apprentices are entering vocational training in IT (application and platform development), interactive media design, mediamatics, commercial and retail professions, and digital business development (Federal VET Diploma). There are also nine students in the practical bachelor’s degree programme in information technology. At the subsidiary cablex, 15 apprentices are starting their Federal VET Diploma apprenticeships as electricians, network electricians (with a focus on telecommunications) and assembly electricians.

Stefanie Gansterer, Head of Next Generation: 'Our apprentices and students bring new perspectives, fresh attitudes and ideas, and a great deal of curiosity and new approaches to our company. It is great, and highly rewarding, to see them develop, take on responsibility and find their own path during their apprenticeship. And it’s wonderful to be able to support them as they do so. At the same time, there is also great added value for us as a company as we learn from each other. Apprentices keep the company close to the next generation, their needs, expectations and ways of thinking. This is important not only for our own ongoing development, but for Swisscom as a whole.

New phased approach in ICT apprenticeships

Swisscom launched a new phased approach to ICT apprenticeships in 2026. The training follows a clear sequence of onboarding, inspiration and performance phases. This gives apprentices more focused support throughout their entire training period. In the onboarding phase, the focus is on orientation, settling in and initial experiences. During the inspiration phase, the apprentices discover different topics, working methods and potential roles. In the subsequent performance phase, they take on more responsibility and deepen their professional skills in projects and teams. The modular structure of the training remains a central component of the training model. Apprentices and students take an active role in determining their own educational path, applying internally for projects and gaining a wide range of practical experience in different areas.

Successful certification in 2026

This summer marks the end of an important phase in life for finishing apprentices as well. A total of 192 apprentices successfully completed their apprenticeships at Swisscom ― a completion rate of 98.5%. At cablex, 86% of apprentices passed their final examinations. The apprenticeship certificate represents commitment, development and a wealth of personal achievements. In recent years, the talented young apprentices have gained valuable practical experience, taken on responsibility and played an active role in shaping Swisscom’s working environment. We are very proud of all our apprenticeship graduates and wish them all the best for their future ― at Swisscom or wherever their path takes them.
